Sandra Birchmore’s Trooper Kept Farwell Off Tape and Closed Her Case as Suicide

Trooper Matthew Dunne had one chance to get Matthew Farwell on the record about the night Sandra Birchmore died. He chose a school parking lot, no recorder, no notebook, and testified he did it so Farwell wouldn’t lawyer up. Farwell told him the relationship started in 2020 and they’d met a handful of times. Dunne now says both claims were lies. He still didn’t attend the autopsy, didn’t interview neighbors, didn’t preserve the bedding or the duffel bag the ligature likely came from, and signed off on suicide. Bob Motta explains how a lead investigator ends up testifying for the prosecution against his own work, and what the jury is supposed to do with a trooper who knew his subject lied and closed the file. Farwell is charged federally with killing Sandra and her unborn child. The defense says suicide.
