Sandra Birchmore: Farwell Got WHAT Second Chance?!

One officer allegedly tells a young woman to delete messages and protect his secret. A police department documents concerns about another officer, then hires him years later. The Sandra Birchmore story is not just a federal murder prosecution; it is also a record of opportunities for adults and institutions to intervene.
Tony Brueski puts the two timelines together with retired FBI behavioral expert Robin Dreeke. First comes Matthew Farwell’s reported relationship with Sandra, which investigators say began when she was fifteen and he was a police officer involved in the Stoughton Police Explorers program. Prosecutors describe commands to hide communications, to make the relationship appear innocent, and, after Sandra disclosed involvement with his twin William, to prove herself trustworthy to Matthew. Those claims are examined as alleged patterns of control, not as a diagnosis made from a distance.
Then we turn to what Stoughton knew. In 2011, Chief Paul Shastany passed over William Farwell for employment and wrote of conduct incompatible with police work. William nevertheless became a Stoughton officer in 2017. The Explorer program’s leader, Robert Devine, had helped the brothers enter law enforcement. William later acknowledged his own sexual involvement with Sandra while testifying in Matthew’s federal trial under immunity.
The January 20, 2021 dispatcher call brings both threads together. A friend alerted the department to a relationship involving Matthew. Dispatcher James Fitton testified Matthew responded angrily and warned him not to discuss the call. Fitton’s handwritten note was thrown away. This is why a seemingly routine phone call deserves close attention.
Matthew Farwell denies murdering Sandra. Prosecutors accuse him of killing her and staging a suicide; the defense contests that account. The episode examines what the messages and departmental record actually establish, what remains disputed, and the cost of treating repeated warnings as somebody else’s problem.
