Alex Murdaugh’s Cop Called It a Trick. Then He Swore to It Under Oath.

Published by Tony Brueski on

December 10 is the day the State can go back to a grand jury if a judge throws out Alex Murdaugh’s murder indictments. Eric Faddis, a defense attorney and former prosecutor, walks through the Alex Murdaugh motion to dismiss with me.

A dismissal without prejudice erases the four indictments, but prosecutors can ask a new grand jury for them. Alex stays in prison either way on his sentence for stealing from clients, and the retrial is set for April 2027.

Alex’s lawyers argue the indictments have to go because the lead SLED agent told the grand jury in July 2022 that Alex’s shirt carried Maggie and Paul’s blood, eight months after the State’s lab reported no human blood on it.

He also swore to the grand jury that shotguns at the house were loaded like the gun that killed Paul. At trial he called the version he’d told Alex a trick and agreed the sworn version was not accurate. The judge hears the motion November 13.
