Farwell’s Defense Doctor Held Sandra’s Strap and Brushed It Off With THIS
Dr. Thomas Andrew was the last witness Matthew Farwell’s lawyers called, and he told the jury Sandra Birchmore’s autopsy findings favor suicide. He would certify her cause of death as hanging and the manner as undetermined. One of prosecutor Elizabeth Riley’s first questions was who was paying him, and he answered that he wasn’t paid by her. Riley pointed out that his written report never said the evidence leaned toward suicide, and he agreed he couldn’t say for sure which was more likely. He agreed a hanging can be set up after a person is already dead. He first saw the strap from Sandra’s neck in person on the day he testified, and his word for what handling it changed opens my breakdown of the last day of testimony, the day Farwell told the judge he would not take the stand.
