Farwell Went Eight Years Without Doing THIS Off Duty. Then Sandra Birchmore Died.

Matthew Farwell helped train Detective Daniel Barber in 2013 and shared the detective office with him on the four-to-midnight shift. Barber testified that in eight years, Farwell never once reached out off duty to ask what was happening overnight. Then, from his wife’s hospital room, hours after prosecutors say he walked into Sandra Birchmore’s building in a mask, Farwell texted him asking if anything was going on.
Barber also described late 2020, when Farwell went from calm, cool and collected to stressed, flustered, and stepping into the parking lot to take calls. On a work drive to Taunton, Farwell told him he had to put crazy back in the bag.
Rebecca Chandler read the jury four months of Sandra’s texts, ending with baby clothes on January 31. Sandra’s childhood friend testified she needed her car dug out for Thursday, February 4. That’s the day she was found.
