Former Pastor Explains Why the Bible Told Caleb Flynn He Only Owed God

When Caleb Flynn said “God is my judge” after his conviction, most people heard arrogance. Timmy Gibson heard something more specific. Gibson pastored evangelical churches for three decades before leaving. On Homicide Happy Hour, he explained the theology behind Flynn’s statement. The Bible teaches that the primary relationship to repair after wrongdoing is between you and God. You haven’t sinned against the person you hurt as much as you’ve sinned against God. When your accountability only runs upward, people become disposable. Flynn was convicted on all nine counts and sentenced to life without parole for the murder of his wife Ashley. Tony and Gibson examined the lost devices belonging to Alleigha Botner. Both believe she was preparing for a divorce filing, not a murder case. Gibson says Flynn will never confess because the same mental gymnastics that justified the affair now justify the denial.
