Every Officer Who Touched Sandra Birchmore’s Case Moved It Toward Suicide

The trooper. The examiner. The supervisor. The brother. Sandra Birchmore’s death went through all four, and every one of them is now a reason the FBI had to start over. Trooper Dunne testified he never recorded the Farwell interview, skipped the autopsy, never interviewed a neighbor, and learned Farwell lied. Examiner Guarino found Sandra’s password was Farwell’s name, found zero messages on Farwell’s phone, and returned it; the FBI later recovered tens of thousands. Sgt. Fanning, prosecutors say, told Farwell’s twin they needed the investigation like a bullet in the head, and no warrant was ever sought. Officer William Farwell admitted his own relationship with Sandra, lied to state police, and was decertified. Bob Motta covers each in its own segment and lands on the question of whether any of this was an accident. Farwell is charged federally with killing Sandra and her unborn child. The defense says suicide.
