Another Officer Knew Sandra Was Pregnant by His Brother — What He Did NEXT

William Farwell knew Sandra Birchmore was pregnant with his twin brother Matthew’s baby. Prosecutors allege he participated anyway. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott examines what that decision reveals about the dynamic between officers who allegedly shared access to the same vulnerable person. Robert Devine ran the Stoughton Explorers program and allegedly mentored the Farwell brothers when they were teenagers — the same program that later gave those officers access to Sandra. When Devine faced his own disciplinary hearing after Sandra’s death, he called her a liar. Scott, author of Nightbird, explains what drives someone to attack a dead woman’s credibility when his own conduct is being examined. Three officers from the same department allegedly involved with one girl for years. Scott breaks down how that structure damages the person inside it — how being passed between authority figures dismantles the ability to recognize what is happening.
