What SLED Never Tested — Unknown Male DNA Under Both of Maggie’s Hands

Unknown male DNA under both of Maggie Murdaugh’s fingernails. Unknown male DNA on her cell phone — the one thrown from the car. None of it matches Alex Murdaugh. SLED tested only one hand at the first trial and stopped. This week the defense put all of it before a judge and asked for independent Y-STR testing. The judge agreed — 90 days. A second revelation: a statement from federal prisoner Ryan Spencer North had been sitting in the state’s evidence dump for three years. North claimed $15,000-a-week prescription pill sales to the family and connected Eddie Smith to a violent drug gang through a $165,000 debt. The statement arrived three days before the first trial inside 73 gigabytes of files. It went uninvestigated. Retrial is set for April in Sumter County. Murdaugh has pleaded not guilty.
