Suzanne Morphew Planted a Pen That Caught HER Secret

Published by Tony Brueski on

On May 9, 2020, Suzanne Morphew texted at 2:11 p.m. — her last confirmed contact with anyone. Barry Morphew pulled in at 2:43. What happened between that afternoon and the next morning, when Suzanne’s phone went dark, comes entirely from Barry’s account. Suzanne had planted a hidden recording device in their Chaffee County home. She suspected her husband was unfaithful. The pen recorded something investigators didn’t expect — her own relationship with Jeff Libler, an acquaintance from Indiana living in Michigan. She’d told Barry on May 6 that she wanted out of the marriage. On May 8, she sent her sister a message describing abuse. Their daughters Mallory and Macy had left the house on May 5. Suzanne was a mother, a teacher, a cancer survivor managing a chronic illness inside a marriage she was privately calling something she needed to escape. The community never saw it. The investigative record would.
