Sandra Birchmore Asked Farwell to Buy the Baby’s Outfit. He Was at Her Door.

Published by Tony Brueski on

A state police DNA analyst testified in the Matthew Farwell trial that the DNA on the strap around Sandra Birchmore’s neck was 6.2 trillion times more likely to include Farwell than not. Prosecutors say his was the main male DNA on the end tied to the closet doorknob, the end they say he tied himself.

Eric Faddis is a defense attorney and former prosecutor. I hand him that number and the rest of the government’s case, and he answers each piece the way Farwell’s defense will have to on Friday, November 6th, when closings begin.

The government’s theory is that Farwell, a former Stoughton detective, strangled Sandra, who was 23 and pregnant, and set the scene to look like a hanging. Farwell’s lawyers say the baby wasn’t his and Sandra took her own life.

Farwell told the judge November 4th he won’t testify. Prosecutors say that at 7:46 that night, Sandra had texted him asking him to buy the baby’s going-home outfit.
