No sounds, no laundry, no faces in windows, no kids in a yard, nothing. Either that house operated with a discipline that should terrify everyone, or the man's memory is doing him a favor. Tony and Robin stress-test the story, and it doesn't hold.The conversation widens to everything else that doesn't add up in Hamden's account of itself. A store clerk with years of detailed observations who never dialed a number. A family the AG says was hiding from all record-keeping — while paying property taxes, maintaining water service, and running air conditioners visible from the street. Somebody inside that house was competent. The bills prove it. Which means the squalor those children lived in wasn't neglect by incapacity. It was allocation.
