Nick Reiner: Self-Made Monster – $60,000 a Month for THIS
On December 13, 2025, Rob and Michele Reiner brought their 32-year-old son to Conan O’Brien’s holiday party because, as one source put it, they needed to keep an eye on him. By several accounts he spent the night in a hoodie asking their friends whether they were famous, and when he interrupted Bill Hader, a witness says he went into a thousand-yard stare and walked off. The next afternoon their daughter found them dead in their bedroom. Sixteen years before that party, the same two people were paying about $60,000 a month for a room in Malibu, and the boy in the other bed says what their son said in that room every night was chilling. Self-Made Monster: The Nick Reiner Story runs from that room to Twin Towers jail in one cut, all three parts.
A family friend would say Rob had spent the weeks before Christmas telling people he was scared for Nick, and a tabloid went further than that. At the party, somebody reportedly raised the idea of a psychiatric hold, and nobody called 911. Whether there was a loud argument between father and son that night is disputed, and the dispute is part of the record. Then Rob and Michele drove him home to the guesthouse a short walk from their bedroom.
The series builds the thirty-two years before that drive. It runs from the roommate who remembers Nick as a pompous little punk to the podcast where Nick laughed about wrecking the guesthouse. It sits at a Thanksgiving where the help threatened to quit and watches a conservatorship run out like a subscription. It ends at a 4:15 a.m. hotel check-in, a lawyer who walked, a brother who will never understand, and a probate petition that says Nick loved his parents and asks for their money in the same breath. Tony keeps the ledger from the first page to the last. Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty.
