Caleb Flynn Trial Day 6: Why Did Caleb Say Police Were Pointing at Him?

Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan put Caleb Flynn’s own recorded police interviews in front of the jury, including the moment Flynn told him, “It feels like you’re pointing at me.” Morgan testified about his response to the Tipp City home where Ashley Flynn was found deceased and about two voluntary interviews he conducted with Caleb.

Morgan said he examined the garage and saw damage near the side door, but testified that what he observed was not consistent with forced entry. He then requested assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Prosecutors allege Caleb killed his wife Ashley and staged the scene to resemble a home invasion; Caleb has pleaded not guilty and maintains Ashley was killed by an intruder. Other investigators have also testified that the garage-door evidence did not appear consistent with a genuine forced entry.

In the first recorded interview, Flynn described what he said happened before and after he heard two shots. He told Morgan that Ashley had asked him to sleep on the couch because he was coughing, that he later went into his daughters’ room, and that he heard the shots while lying on a bunk. Flynn said he ran to the garage, saw the side door wide open, closed it, then went to Ashley and called 911. He also described encounters Ashley allegedly had with a strange man before her death and provided Morgan a written list of firearms and ammunition.

The second interview moved into the marriage. Morgan told Flynn investigators would examine Ashley’s phone and asked whether the couple had problems. Flynn answered, “No. We had a normal marriage,” and said neither phone would reveal trouble. Then came the line prosecutors played for the jury: “It feels like you’re pointing at me.”
