Why Has Lindsay Clancy Never Spoken To Police?

Lindsay Clancy has been in custody or in a hospital bed for three and a half years, and in all that time, she has never once given police a statement. 
She’s a former labor and delivery nurse charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, at their Duxbury, Massachusetts home in January 2023. She’s pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. She was also gravely injured that night and has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since. 
Prosecutors have spent years reconstructing what they believe happened using medication records and search histories, building their case around a woman who has never told her own side to investigators. Between September 2022 and January 2023, she was prescribed at least nine different psychiatric medications. Her husband, Patrick, has said she seemed to be acting like a zombie. An outside hospital later determined she’d been overmedicated and misdiagnosed, and her civil lawsuit alleges that what she reported as intrusive thoughts were actually auditory hallucinations nobody thought to ask more about. 
A forensic psychiatrist has since diagnosed her with Bipolar Disorder I with postpartum onset. Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague has argued to the judge that other mothers who experienced postpartum psychosis or depression without harming their children shouldn’t be allowed to testify for the defense. Judge William Sullivan agreed and kept them off the stand. 
Eighteen jurors will be seated instead of the usual sixteen, a sign of how long this trial is expected to run. Patrick Clancy is on the defense witness list and has publicly asked people to forgive his wife. 
Jury selection begins July 20 in Plymouth Superior Court, where twelve of those jurors will have to reconstruct a state of mind that Lindsay Clancy herself has never described out loud.
