Tennessee’s Reviewer for Pike’s Execution Made Recommendations Before — They Ignored Them

Published by Tony Brueski on

The man leading the independent review of Christa Pike’s failed execution conducted Tennessee’s 2022 review — the state didn’t follow his recommendations. Tony Brueski and Robin Dreeke examine whether hiring the same person again produces anything different. Corrections Commissioner Frank Strada resigned three days after Pike survived. Strada previously oversaw botched executions in Arizona before Governor Lee brought him to Tennessee. Pike is dictating her statement from an infirmary because she can’t write. She says the pain from September 30th hasn’t stopped. Lee paused executions through the end of his term and leaves office in January. The review has no public deadline. Pike’s lawyers argue a second attempt violates the Eighth Amendment. Colleen Slemmer’s family still has no resolution.
