Murdaugh’s Defense Gave the Prosecution THIS in Writing
Jim Griffin emailed lead prosecutor Creighton Waters on January 19, 2023. The double murder trial was days away. Griffin called the State’s handling of cell phone discovery “very accommodating and cooperative.” He blamed the defense’s timing problem on the defense.
Three years later, the State filed that email as Exhibit H — evidence against the defense team itself. The October 6 filing says Murdaugh’s attorneys have been lying about evidence they received on four separate occasions starting in September 2022.
But the cell phone fight is a sideshow. The investigation it sits on top of had real failures — ones the defense keeps burying under claims that collapse within a week.
SLED never put Maggie’s iPhone in a Faraday bag after recovering it from the crime scene. The GPS data from the night of the murders disappeared. Lead agent David Owen told a grand jury blood was found on Alex’s T-shirt. His lab said no. DNA from an unidentified male was found under Maggie’s fingernails, and the test that could have identified it was never run.
Those are documented problems. Then Harpootlian told the court Alex passed a polygraph with flying colors. No polygraph on the murders was ever administered. Griffin cited a ballistic link from a YouTube segment the hosts themselves hadn’t validated.
Every fabrication makes the real failures harder to take seriously. The investigation had problems. The defense has a credibility problem. And the kennel video hasn’t gone anywhere.
