Mark Kaufman Says JP Miller Was NEVER Part of WHAT?!
The Mica Miller case is forcing people around JP Miller to define exactly how close they really were. Mark Kaufman was best man at JP and Mica’s 2017 wedding, but his September 2026 statement says JP was never part of the core friend group with whom he regularly spent his time.
That statement arrived after Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife showed Kaufman repeatedly inside the story. Wedding footage captured him joking that JP forced him to be his friend and best man. The morning after Mica’s death, JP stood in front of Solid Rock Church and introduced Kaufman to the congregation as his best friend before Kaufman sang.
Kaufman says the public picture of that friendship is inaccurate. He denies helping JP pursue another woman, denies witnessing mistreatment of Mica, and says he has severed ties with JP and the church. Separate reporting says JP once held a minority share in Kaufman’s Crocodile Rocks piano bar and that the remaining interest was bought out in late 2025.
The episode also returns to JP’s own words at Mica’s May 5, 2024 memorial. He told the congregation he had gone to spend time beside her body multiple times and claimed he tried to raise her from the dead. The legal case is separate from Mica’s death. A federal grand jury charged JP with cyberstalking and making false statements, and he pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege tracking, repeated unwanted contacts, financial interference, an intimate image posted without consent, and conduct involving her vehicle between November 2022 and April 27, 2024. JP has not been charged in Mica’s death. His federal trial has been continued to the October 2026 term.
