Caleb Flynn Trial Day 2: David Hammond Says Garage Damage Didn’t Match WHAT?!

David Hammond took jurors straight to the part of the Caleb Flynn case that has to support a home-invasion story: the entry points. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation special agent testified about the photos he took throughout the Tipp City home where Ashley Flynn, 37, Caleb Flynn’s wife and the victim in the murder case, was found dead. 

Hammond documented doors, windows, entrances and exits. At the garage door, he testified that the handle was broken, but the soft wood surrounding it showed no marks suggesting someone had attacked the handle from outside. He also noted a refrigerator positioned against the door. According to Hammond, the deadbolt and the door frame showed no damage. 

That combination immediately mattered because Caleb Flynn’s defense says Ashley was killed during a home-invasion burglary and investigators rushed to blame him. Prosecutors allege Caleb staged the scene to make Ashley’s death look like a burglary. Caleb, 40, has pleaded not guilty to all 11 charges, including aggravated murder. 

Hammond told the jury the garage-door damage did not look right to him. He testified, “The damage was inconsistent with any burglaries I’ve worked on in my experience as an investigator.” Aside from the broken handle, Hammond said he found no sign that the door had actually been forced open. 

The prosecution spent roughly the first two hours of Day 2 walking Hammond through the physical scene. That makes this testimony less about one dramatic object and more about whether the house itself supports the story jurors are being asked to evaluate. A broken handle may sound like evidence of entry. Hammond’s testimony asks jurors to look at everything around that handle before deciding what it means.
