What Prosecutors Made Patrick Clancy Count In Court

Published by Tony Brueski on

Patrick Clancy lost his three children on January 24, 2023. Now prosecutors have put him on the stand as their first witness against the mother of those children, and the exhibit they built the moment around was a bag of nine pill bottles.
Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham told the jury this trial is not a conversation about how the medical system treats women. Then her office spent the afternoon walking Patrick through four months of prescriptions, one bottle at a time, asking how much was missing from each. The defense sees it differently — thirteen prescriptions from more than one prescriber in four months, with nobody adding it up until it was too late.
Tony Brueski breaks down what the state is actually trying to prove with that exhibit, why the defense might be just as happy to see it in front of the jury, and what it cost Patrick Clancy to be the one reading those numbers out loud in a courtroom.
There’s also the detail almost nobody is talking about: the specific number Patrick gave investigators early on, the one that sent him to find his own attorney before this case ever reached a jury.
This is the exhibit both sides think proves their case. This episode covers why they can’t both be right.
