Three people entered Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s life at different points, and none of them came out whole. Dee Dee Blanchard fabricated her daughter’s illness for twenty-three years and was killed in the house charities built for them. Nicholas Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole for a killing Gypsy planned and he carried out. Ken Urker wrote Gypsy a letter in prison after watching her HBO documentary, proposed, left, came back after her release, had a daughter with her, and was found dead on his thirty-fourth birthday. Between them: a doctor who diagnosed the fraud and said nothing, a father who signed off on procedures for a healthy child, and a public that welcomed Gypsy home as a survivor. This three-part series covers the complete arc across three parts — from Chackbay, Louisiana, to a body on a birthday.
