Lindsay Clancy Trial: The First Two Officers on Scene Testify About What They Found
Two of the first responders to reach the Clancy home took the stand today, and together they gave the jury its clearest picture yet of what happened inside that house on January 24, 2023. Officers Stephen Hall and Brian Josephine were the first Duxbury police to arrive on Summer Street, where prosecutors say Lindsay Clancy, 34, strangled her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She’s pleaded not guilty, and her attorney, Kevin Reddington, is mounting an insanity defense built around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan.
Hall testified that he encountered Clancy outside the home before heading in and finding the three children in the basement. Josephine, who arrived alongside him, described that same discovery and the attempt to resuscitate Cora at the scene. Neither officer dressed it up. They didn’t need to. Two men describing the worst minutes of their careers in flat, procedural language did more work than any narration could.
This is how prosecutors build a case before it gets complicated — scene first, established plainly, by the people who were actually there. The psychiatric arguments, the competing theories about what Clancy understood and when, all of that comes later. Today was about what the record now shows happened in that house, in that order, to those three kids. The trial continues at Plymouth Superior Court, expected to run several more weeks.
