Lindsay Clancy Trial: Psychiatrist Saw No Active Psychosis in 20-Minute Evaluation
A forensic psychiatrist and a Duxbury police sergeant gave two very different but equally pointed pieces of testimony this week in the Lindsay Clancy trial. Clancy, 34, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, is charged with three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation in the deaths of her children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — who prosecutors allege she strangled with exercise resistance bands inside the family’s Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She’s pleaded not guilty, and her attorney, Kevin Reddington, is mounting an insanity defense built on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.
Dr. Jhilam Biswas, a forensic psychiatrist, walked the court through her initial assessment of Clancy, including how she evaluated her for safety and state of mind. Biswas testified that symptoms of psychosis vary widely from person to person — then told jurors that in the roughly 20 minutes she spent communicating with Clancy, she saw no signs of active psychosis. That’s a number the defense is not going to love repeated.
Sgt. Robert Flynn of the Duxbury Police Department testified about being present when State Police executed the search warrant at the home. He stated there was no damage to the window or screen involved in Clancy’s alleged fall, and confirmed State Police took over the investigation from there.
Clancy is accused of attempting suicide after the killings by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court and is expected to run several weeks.
