Lindsay Clancy Trial: Officer and Paramedic Testify — Court Now Recessed Until Friday

Published by Tony Brueski on

Testimony resumed in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise bands inside the family’s Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She’s pleaded not guilty, and her attorney, Kevin Reddington, is mounting an insanity defense built on claims of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.

Duxbury firefighter-paramedic Daniel Dougherty testified about placing Clancy in a stabilizing neck collar and treating her in the ambulance. On cross-examination, the discussion turned to cold exposure and whether it could have restricted her blood flow — the kind of detail that sounds clinical until you remember why it matters to the defense’s theory of her state that day. Duxbury Police Officer Vincent Cahill followed, describing the scene as he found it: the children, the equipment he brought in to try to help, and his own hands-on effort assisting with CPR on Cora. Not the kind of testimony anyone forgets giving.

Prosecutors continue to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense’s mental-health claims. After the killings, she allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial is now in recess and set to resume Friday morning in Plymouth Superior Court, where it’s expected to continue for several more weeks.
