JP Miller’s Best Man Claims They Were NEVER That Close

In May 2024, Charles Randall stood at the Solid Rock pulpit and told the room he was backing JP Miller “for the duration.” He labeled Mica Miller’s death “a little bump in the road” and denied all allegations of misconduct. After thirty-four million people watched Netflix’s Death of a Pastor’s Wife, Randall has offered no comment, no interview, and no defense of the man he once vowed to stand beside. His silence says more than any press release.

Randall is not the only one who went quiet. But his counterpart chose a different tactic. Mark Kaufman — JP’s best man, business partner at a Myrtle Beach piano bar, and the man who received power of attorney over JP’s entertainment company shares — issued a written statement saying JP “was never part of the core group” of friends he regularly kept. Wedding footage and pulpit recordings from the morning after Mica’s death tell a different story. A former Solid Rock pastor told the documentary Kaufman phoned her within minutes of her resignation, insisting she could not leave JP.

Bernard Kenerson, who earned an elder title at Solid Rock, walked away a week after Mica died. Even with that title, he says he had no access to the church’s $5.59 million property portfolio, the ministry airplane, or the eleven vehicles on church paper. His word for JP: “not the man I thought he was.” When his own photos with JP surfaced, he clarified publicly that he was “never close friends” with the pastor.

The congregation did its distancing without a single statement. Seven hundred worshippers became a handful at gyms and empty storefronts. JP Miller has entered a not-guilty plea to federal cyberstalking and false-statement charges. His October 2026 trial approaches.
