Did Lindsay Clancy Really Manipulate Her Own Doctors?
Prosecutors in the Lindsay Clancy trial did not tell the jury she was untreated. They told the jury she manipulated her doctors, looked for a quick and easy fix, and then quit trying.
Tony Brueski brings that to psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, whose career covers private practice, community mental health, crisis teams, and forensic programs, and the conversation goes exactly where it should go.
Because there is a competing account of the same behavior sitting in the record. Defense attorney Kevin Reddington told jurors she had no motive and wanted off the drugs. Her malpractice suit alleges the medications she was prescribed made her worse, that she reported that to her providers, and that her care was uncoordinated across too many prescribers.
A labor and delivery nurse is not an unsophisticated patient. She is the most system-literate person who will ever sit in that chair. If she could not get correctly diagnosed inside institutions that specialize in this, the question of who the system is actually working for stops being rhetorical.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder and does not dispute that she caused the deaths of Cora, Dawson, and Callan. The trial is about criminal responsibility and nothing else.
Scott also addresses what outside observers consistently misread when someone with a serious psychotic illness looks fine for an afternoon. It is one of the most common assumptions in cases like this one, and one of the most damaging.
