Caleb Flynn Trial Day 7: Mike Morgan Says Police Never Tested WHAT?

Cross-examination of Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan turned from what Tipp City police investigated in Ashley Flynn’s murder to what they didn’t.

The defense pressed Morgan about moments where the interview video appeared not to line up with its audio. Then the questions moved to physical evidence. Morgan testified that investigators found no evidence of blood on Caleb Flynn’s clothing or in the sinks of the home.

Caleb also was never tested for gunshot residue.

Asked why, Morgan said investigators didn’t want to rush to judgment and take Caleb into custody at that point. But Morgan also testified that because Caleb said he entered the room within four to six seconds of hearing the shots, he believed gunshot residue would have been somewhere on Caleb’s body. No gunshot-residue tests were taken in the case.

The defense also questioned investigative ground that Morgan acknowledged wasn’t covered. Police did not examine FLOCK camera data in the neighborhood or around Pastor Jordan’s house, and investigators did not search the fields behind Jordan’s home. Defense counsel also raised the use of cold-case units by many police departments.

Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty to charges in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege he killed Ashley and staged a home invasion. The defense says the home invasion was real and investigators focused on Caleb too quickly.

Cross-examination is now putting that defense theory directly against the investigative choices police made.
