Caleb Flynn Trial Day 4: Kline and Moore Used WHAT From Break-In Door?!

Two law-enforcement witnesses put the alleged break-in door itself at the center of Caleb Flynn’s trial. Det. Brad Kline testified that debris from the broken garage access lock was inside the garage and that, based on his prior DEA experience with kicked-in doors, the damage did not look consistent with forced entry from outside. 

Caleb Flynn, 40, has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder in the February 16 death of his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37. His defense says Ashley was killed during a home-invasion burglary and investigators rushed to blame Caleb; prosecutors allege the scene was staged to look like a burglary. 

Kline said he and Det. Hammond removed the damaged door frame, which was brought into court and assembled to show its condition that night. He also described searching the attic for the gun, but testified that heavy insulation prevented a complete search and some areas could not be accessed. On cross-examination, Kline said investigators did not use an X-ray machine on the walls, neighbors did not report hearing anything that night, and he asked nearby residents about camera footage. 

Lt. Jason Moore also testified that the door damage did not fit an outside forced entry in his view. Using the courtroom setup, Moore pointed to the limited damage and said the missing internal handle would make the door harder to open. He described searches inside vents and elsewhere in the home, plus outdoor searches using cameras, magnets, and other equipment. On cross, Moore said officers returned repeatedly over the next several weeks because when an initial search does not produce what they are looking for, they expand the search and keep going until available efforts are exhausted.
