Anna Kepner: What’s Holding Up Timothy Hudson’s Plea?!
Anna Kepner’s death aboard the Carnival Horizon led to a federal murder prosecution against her teenage stepbrother, Timothy Hudson. Now the lawyers representing him say there is one pending issue they must resolve before advising him on whether to plead guilty or take his case to trial. They have not publicly identified the issue.
Hudson was 16 when Anna, 18, died during the family cruise in November 2025. He is being tried as an adult and has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse. Anna’s body was found beneath a bed in the cabin she had shared with Hudson and another teenager. The federal indictment sets out the government’s accusations; it is not a verdict.
The trial had already moved from September to November. In October, U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom approved another continuance, setting January 25, 2027, for jury selection and trial proceedings. The court made January 15 the deadline for any guilty plea. Prosecutors did not oppose the latest postponement.
The defense previously described a difficult family dynamic that complicated its investigation and access to certain family members. Those problems matter because juvenile sentencing calls for a different analysis than an ordinary adult murder case. Hudson could face life if convicted, but reporting about a possible 24-to-30-year resolution has not established that a binding offer exists.
