Rob and Michele Reiner spent years trying to save a son who sources say bragged about what he could get away with. A grand jury has now added lying in wait to his murder charges — alleging he hid his intentions from the two people who trusted him most, waited for his moment, and attacked them inside their own bedroom with the intent to kill. Under California law, every piece of that charge requires a brain that is planning and choosing. Nick Reiner was diagnosed with schizophrenia and placed under a conservatorship for grave disability in 2020. His medication was switched weeks before December 14, 2025, and sources say doctors warned his parents the change could trigger worse behavior.
