Lindsay Clancy Trial: Medical Examiner Reveals How Callan Died — Pediatrician Says She Saw No Warning Signs
Three witnesses took the stand today in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise bands inside the family’s Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She’s pleaded not guilty, and her attorney, Kevin Reddington, is building an insanity defense around severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.
The clinical parts of this case are the hardest to sit through, and today didn’t spare anyone. Dr. Kimberley Springer, the medical examiner, testified to the autopsy findings for Callan — cause of death was complications from mechanical asphyxiation, strangulation by ligature. Clinical language for something that shouldn’t need a definition.
Then came the pediatrician, Dr. Lindsay Rosshart, who’d seen all three kids and, by her account, saw nothing alarming in Clancy either — no signs of postpartum depression, and on cross-examination she went further, calling Clancy a good mom. That’s the tension this trial keeps circling back to: a woman everyone around her says looked fine, and three children who are dead.
Susan Fraone, a preschool teacher at Learning Sprouts, added a smaller but pointed detail — drop-offs were hard for Dawson. Whether that means anything beyond a toddler having a rough morning is for the jury to decide.
Prosecutors maintain Clancy understood what she was doing. After the killings, she allegedly attempted suicide by jumping from a second-story window and is now paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. The trial continues in Plymouth Superior Court.
