Bryan Kohberger Lost WHICH Hearing Before It Began?!

Published by Tony Brueski on

Bryan Kohberger had a court date to argue Judge Steven Hippler should be removed from his post-conviction case. An October 14 order took that October 15 hearing off the calendar and also canceled the June 2027 dates previously reserved for his effort to undo his guilty plea. The judge’s scheduling action did not decide either legal question.

Kohberger admitted guilt in July 2025 in the murders of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. He is serving four consecutive life sentences. In a handwritten petition filed the following year, he alleged that his former lawyers did not represent him effectively and that his guilty plea was coerced. Prosecutors say those claims should be dismissed without another hearing.

His appointed attorney, Greg Rauch, says Hippler’s words at sentencing create a fairness problem. The judge described Kohberger in exceptionally harsh terms, and the defense argues that those comments could affect how Hippler evaluates his credibility now. Rauch also points to the judge’s denial of additional preparation time before the plea and seeks a return to Latah County.

The court’s amended schedule gives Kohberger until January 13, 2027, to revise his petition. The sides must complete discovery by July 7, and a later hearing is possible only if other issues do not resolve the case first. A canceled date should not be mistaken for a decision on the merits.

Tony Brueski and defense attorney Eric Faddis examine the difference between a judge condemning a convicted killer at sentencing and a judge being legally unable to hear a later challenge. The families now face a new timetable and another stretch of uncertainty over the plea Kohberger entered under oath.
